In regards to the homophobic letter read in California sacrament meetings today (Posted By AMBERLY)

"A growing number of active Mormons, who have gay friends and family members are coming to the conclusion that our current leaders are as mistaken in promoting discrimination against gays and lesbians as was the Mormon hierarchy in the 60's when they opposed equal rights for people of color, and our Mormon leaders in the 70's when they opposed full legal equality for women.

"No one is asking that you condone a behavior that might violate your religious faith, but we need to allow everyone the freedom to live their life as they see fit."

I wish people would stop assuming that anyone who does not agree with gay marriage, or any kind of homosexual relationship is "homophobic". The more I hear this, the more I am lead to believe that straight people are being discriminated against for not agreeing more than homosexuals are for being gay.

"Homophobia (from Greek homós: one and the same; phóbos: fear, phobia) is a term used to describe fear of, aversion to, or discrimination against homosexuals".

I think that issuing a letter encouraging masses to vote against gay marriage in fear of disturbing your way of life is a little homophobic. Not to say that LDS are SCARED of gays, but that they are being discriminate, which I believe they are.

God instituted marriage between one man and one woman and no one has the right to go against that. Gay people do not have the right to be married in God's eyes.

No society or civilization that has embraced homosexuality has ever survived. Why do you think that is? Because when people become so wicked God destroys them.

God is not proven.

Several societies, countries and civilizations have gay marriage currently and are surviving just fine.

I believe in God and I am willing to accept the fact that homosexual relations are sinful, and will not dispute it.

However,if homosexuals want to be married civilly, or if other religious bodies wish to perform homosexual marriages, we should not prevent them. We believe in freedom, and that must by necessity include the freedom to think, believe, or do what is wrong.

Without choice there is no agency which is squarely against gospel principles. What's ironic to me is that the church wanted the govt to stay out of their definition of marriage when it wanted to practice polygamy.

It's not about God, it's about pride - pride is what causes members to force their conception of morality on others and it's flat out wrong.

And that crap about gays destroying societies is ridiculous.

Furthermore, no one is saying that gay marriages would have to be recognized in the church.

Finally, We have been taught by prophets to never blindly obey.

“With all their inspiration and greatness, prophets are yet mortal men with imperfections common to mankind in general. They have their opinions and prejudices and are left to work out their own problems without inspiration in many instances.” - Bruce R. McConkie
